On Red Hat Linux, the licensing costs depend on the number of physical CPU sockets on the system. Oracle also uses per-socket licensing. In light of this it would be helpful to have a $(sys.cpusockets) environment detection variable to complement the $(sys.cpus) variable which counts physical and virtual (hyperthread) cores, rather than physical sockets.
On Linux, the /proc/cpuinfo file lists physical ID numbers, so:
